The first WNBA expansion team since 2008 are the Golden State Valkyries
An exciting new WNBA expansion team named the Golden State Valkyries will be based in Oakland, California. They will share the same stadium as their basketball brothers in the NBA, the Chase Center. Their first game will be in May 2025, at the beginning of the new WNBA season.
Headquartered in Oakland, they will play their home games inside the Chase Center in San Francisco. We excitedly await the 2025 WNBA season to be their inaugural season.

Which NBA team got the expansion?
The Golden State Warriors have acquired a WNBA expansion franchise, marking the first expansion team since 2008!

This awesome opportunity is going to be with Toronto. They have not figured out the teams name yet but have been asking for suggestions from fans. They will begin playing in the league in the 2026 WNBA season.
Who gets the 3rd Expansion team?
Portland is finally getting another chance at having a WNBA Team they had the Portland Fire play there from 2000 to 2002. They will play inside the Moda center.
Who gets the 4th Expansion team?
It has yet to be determined which city will have 4th Expansion team. As of right now, they are scheduled to start in the 2028 WNBA regular season.
When does the WNBA season take place?
The WNBA season takes place from May - October annually. The WNBA schedule typically gets released in December for the next season.

Which players will be on the Golden State Valkyries roster?
We will find out which lucky WNBA players will be the first to play for the Golden State Valkyries after the December 2024 Expansion Draft.
Then, Free Agency will occur during Winter 2025 and finally, the WNBA Draft in Spring 2025 will round out rosters for training camp. Most WNBA teams have somewhere between 10 to 12 players on a regular season roster.
When will tickets for the Golden State Valkyries go on sale?
The exact date has not yet been determined, but all fans interested in securing season tickets are encouraged to place a $25 non-refundable deposit promptly.
As of October 8th, 2024 it has been 12 months since the Valkyries have launched their brand. A huge amount of fans, to the tune of over 18,000 people have secured a deposit to possibly get tickets.
Who will be the Head Coach?

As the top assistant coach with the Aces, she contributed to an outstanding 87-29 record over three seasons. Natalie's extensive experience also spans a decade with the NBA's Los Angeles Clippers, showing her perseverance and commitment to the game.

Who is the Golden State Valkyries Jersey sponsor?
A multi-year partnership deal has been reached with Kaiser Permanente to be the Golden State Valkyries home and away core jersey sponsor.
